The Rhythms and Patterns of Poetry

Omnidawn’s Breaking the Bowl 2025
Running Oct. 26 - Nov. 16, Omnidawn’s Breaking the Bowl workshop led by David Koehn with publisher Rusty Morrison offers compelling strategies for inspired revision, augmented by ideas for how to break formal traditions in new ways that reflect and extend your creative repertoire. Each meeting includes discussion, exploration, and weekly guest poets: Lisa Rosenberg (10/26, sonnet), Maria Nazos (11/2, sestina), Maw Shein Win (11/9, logs), and Randall Mann (11/16, pantoum).

Poetry Program, San Mateo County Fair
The Live Poetry Program hosted by poet and Arts Commissioner Lois Fried features youth poets, city poets laureate, local authors, musicians, and San Mateo County’s current poet laureate, Antonio Lopez, plus emeriti laureates Caroline Goodwin, Lisa Rosenberg, Aileen Cassinetto, and Jorge Argueta.

National Mental Health Month Open Mic Night
Please join us for Menlo Park’s 7th Annual Mental Health Open Mic Night. Musician and mental health advocate Frances Ancheta Becker will be our emcee for a special event celebrating Mental Health Month. The evening includes professional musicians, San Mateo County Poets Laureate Emerita Aileen Cassinetto and Lisa Rosenberg, and mental health advocates and supportive members of the community.
The 2025 theme for Mental Health month is "Mental Health as a Continuum." This theme challenges the binary idea of “healthy” versus “unhealthy” mental health, normalizing the wide range of mental health experiences and encouraging individuals to embrace and accept the full spectrum of their well-being.
Whether in sharing experience, music, storytelling, readings, or poetry, join us in a safe space where you can share your own words, or listen to those of others.

Omnidawn’s Prosody 2025
Running April 6-May 11, Omnidawn’s highly esteemed yearly prosody course/workshop led by David Koehn draws on Donald Justice’s Compendium to help poets expand their skills and creative directions through deeper understanding of prosody. Each meeting includes discussion, exploration, and weekly guest poets: Lisa Rosenberg, Rebecca Foust, Kim Addonizio, Maw Shein Win, Arisa White, and Forrest Gander.

Books, Inc. Presents Cintia Santana and Lisa Rosenberg
Books, Inc. presents a poetry reading and informal discussion by local authors Cintia Santana and Lisa Rosenberg. A multidisciplinary author and artist, Santana teaches poetry and translation at Stanford University. Her debut collection, The Disordered Alphabet, received the 2024 Northern California Book Award for Poetry. A former Stegner Fellow, Djerassi Resident, and engineer, Rosenberg served as the second Poet Laureate of San Mateo County. Her debut collection, A Different Physics, received the 2024 American Legacy Book Award for Poetry.

South SF Poet Laureate Celebration
Celebrate California Poet Laureate Lee Herrick and California Youth Poet Laureate Chloe Chou in the City Council Chambers during this special event. The evening will feature poetry readings, a solo jazz performance by renowned saxophonist Francis Wong, and a Q&A session. Hear readings by Lee Herrick, Chloe Chou, current South San Francisco Youth Poet-in-Residence Andrada Tomisinet, and former SSF Youth Poet-in-Residence Elizabeth Wong. Introductions will be provided by San Mateo County Poets Laureate Emeriti Caroline Goodwin, Lisa Rosenberg, and Aileen Cassinetto.
